BET TYPES

For explanations of the various bet types and related terminology please scroll down the page.

Accumulator
This is a bet that consists of four or more selections, all of which must win for the bet to be successful. Each way accumulators can also be made.

Canadian
A Canadian is a bet consisting of 26 bets with 5 selections in different events. The bet breakdown is 10 doubles, 10 trebles, 5 four-folds and one 5 fold.

Double
A bet consisting of two selections, both of which must win for the wager to be successful. Each Way Doubles can also be made with both horses needing to finish in a place position according to the size and type of the race.

Each way
An each-way bet consists of two wagers. The first is for the selection to win and the second is for the selection to achieve a place. The place odds are determined by the individual conditions of each event.

Fold
When preceded by a number, a fold indicates the number of selections in an accumulator. An 5-Fold would be an accumulator with 5 selections, all of which must win for the wager to be successful.

Forecast
A wager that involves correctly predicting the first and second in a particular event. This bet can be reversed or permed. Forecasts can consist of Computer Forecasts (usually made via your Bookmaker) or by using the Tote's new Exacta bet (which is still a "forecast" as described above, but is paid at Tote odds) - Sometimes the Exacta pays more than the Computer Forecast, or vice versa at other times - A guideline might be that , sometimes (but not always) Exactas at major race meetings can give a higher return than the Computer forecast.

Goliath
A goliath is a multiple consisting of 247 bets involving 8 selections in different events. The bet breakdown is 28 doubles, 56 trebles, 70x4-folds, 56x5-folds, 28x6-folds, 8x7-folds and one 8-fold. If you manage to get one of these to come in then just watch your number of friends increase. :)

Heinz
A Heinz is a multiple consisting of 57 (e.g. Heinz 57!) bets involving 6 selections in different events. The bet breakdown is 15 doubles, 20 trebles, 15x4-folds, 6x5-folds and one 6-fold.

Lucky 15
This is an extension of the Yankee in simple terms. 4 Selections, 15 bets. The 15 bets are 4 singles, 6 doubles, 4 trebles and 1 accumulator.

NAP and NB
We are often asked about the meaning of these terms used by Tipsters - In fact the term "Nap" came about from the card game Napoleon whereby a player holding what he/she believes to be the winning hand (trumps etc) calls out "Napoleon!" and then attempts to play this winning hand successfully - The term was shortened to "Nap" and is used by Tipsters to denote what they regard as their best bet of the day - "NB" comes from the Latin nota bene or "note well" and, again has been adopted by Tipsters to denote what they regard as being their "Next Best" bet.

Patent
A multiple bet consisting of 7 bets with 3 selections in different events. The bet breakdown is 3 singles, 3 doubles and 1 treble.

Single
A straight bet on one selection to win one event. I think we are all quite familiar with this one. :)

Treble
A bet consisting of three selections, all of which must win for the bet to be successful. As with "Double Bets", Each Way trebles can also be made. An each way treble requires that all three selections are placed in the final result of their specific event.

Tricast
A bet that involves correctly predicting the first, second and third place in a particular event, this wager can be permed.

Trixie
A Trixie is a multiple bet consisting of 4 bets with 3 selections. The bet breakdown is 3 doubles and 1 treble.

Yankee
A yankee consists of four selections. The bet can be a win yankee or each way yankee. In the case of a win yankee there would be 11 bets at single stakes (double stakes for each way bets). The 11 bets of a yankee are 6 doubles, 4 trebles and 1 accumulator.
